Head coach of Asante Kotoko, Seydou Zerbo is very optimistic that the absence of striker Franck Mbella will not have an effect on the team against RC Kadiogo in the Champions League.[ads2]
The Ghanaian champions will face RC Kadiogo in the second leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round on Sunday without the Cameroonian goal poacher due to injury.
Mbella who was the second highest topscorer in the Ghana Premier League last season, was exceptional for Asante Kotoko and was expected to play a significant role in the team’s Africa campaign but the Cameroonian is yet to feature for the club in the ongoing season due to injury.[ads3]
Despite his monstrous posture whenever in the Kotoko setup, coach Seydou Zerbo believes with the presence of Steven Mukwala, Solomon Sarfo Taylor and the other attacking options, the absence of Franck Mbella Etouga will never have a repercussion on Kotoko against RC Kadiogo at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday, September 18, 2022.
Speaking to the media ahead of the Kadiogo fixture, coach Seydou Zerbo said “Asante Kotoko is a big club and if Mbella isn’t around that doesn’t mean the club won’t be there. I heard he’s an important player but I didn’t work with him but I believe those who won in Benin can equally step up for the club.”[ads4]
Asante Kotoko are going into the game as the favorite ahead of RC Kadiogo after winning the first leg in Benin by 0:1 kind courtesy Isaac Oppong’s late strike.[ads5]
