Sudan stunned Ghana with a late goal in 2021 AFCON Qualifiers at the Al Hilal Stadium in Omdurman on Tuesday afternoon.
The Black Stars who were tipped favorite to defeat the Sudanese counterpart to be able to book slot at the 2022 AFCON in Cameroon were given a shock of their lives as Mohammed Abdul Rahman scored late to secure the home team the three maximum points.
Sudan showed enough determination throughout the first half, pushing the Ghanaian defenders for the opener but coach CK Akonnor’s side managed to hold their guard till the blast of the first half whistle.
Ghana made a good start in the second half with Jordan Ayew, Caleb Ekuban and Mubarak Wakaso making an incursions.
As if all hopes were gone for the Sudanese, tormentor Mohammed Abdul Rahman scored the only goal for Sudan in the 90th minute from a powerful header which Black Stars goalkeeper Fatau Dauda couldn’t stop the ball from entering the net.
The defeat means Ghana have to wait till against South Africa to see whether they can qualify for the 2022 AFCON in Cameroon.
The victory also means Sudan are capable of securing a qualification to the 2022 AFCON in Cameroon.
Ghana still leads the group table with 9 points same as South Africa whiles Sudan place third with six point and Sao Tome and Principe languishing fourth with no point.
