GFA president and 2nd Vice President of CAF Kurt Okraku has explained some of the reasons why referees are not being paid in the Ghana Premiere League.
He attributed the challenges they are facing in paying referees to the headline sponsor of the Ghana Premiere League, StarTimes. He said the non payment by the headline sponsor has crippled the GFA in paying referees.
The president said the payment that should be paid by the club’s has absorbed a lot of money.
“We have had challenges with the payment of our referees because of non payment by StarTimes.
Every year, the Ghana Football Association absorbs a cost of 7.5 million Ghana Cedis on referees—an amount that should have been paid by the clubs.” He told Asempa FM.
