Ivorian striker Wilfred Zaha fired the visitors to the lead in the 45th minute of the fascinating fixture to end the first half.
As things were becoming tough for the Eagles, coach Roy Hodgson had to sacrifice Andros Townsend in the 70th minute for the Ghanaian international.
