Former Asante Kotoko technical director, Malik Jabir has expressed readiness for the club’s coaching job.
The Asante Kotoko coaching job is currently vacant after the sacking of Maxwell Konadu.[ads2]
Konadu was shown the exit doors on Friday morning after just a year with the club.
His sacking comes after a painful 1:0 defeat to Great Olympics in the Ghana Premier League at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday.
Speaking on Kumasi-based Ashh FM, Malik Jabir who once coached Asante Kotoko revealed that he is ready to make a return to the club only if the management want him as their new head coach.[ads3]
“If the management want me, I don’t have problem because I will be serving Kotoko and not anyone else. So if they [Kotoko Management] want me, am ever ready to take over the coaching role”, Jabir said.
He continued that the sacking of coach Maxwell Konadu comes as a big surprised to him and also the timing was wrong since Asante Kotoko have crucial matches in the next few days particularly that with Sudanese giant Al Hilal in the CAF Champions League at the Accra Sports Stadium.[ads4]
“Everyone wasn’t expecting this news sack of Coach Maxwell Konadu. It’s too early to take the decision to sack Maxwell Konadu”, Jabir said.
“I didn’t believe Kotoko will sack its coach. I was shocked when they sack Maxwell. We should have taken time to play at least ten matches before purchasing of players after manhyia banned signing of players”, he added.
Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko have appointed second assistant coach Johnson Smith to take over on interim basis before a substantive coach is announced.[ads5]
