Ghanaian referee Daniel Nii Laryea has shared his techniques for maintaining focus amidst the pressures of football.
The Ghanaian official captured attention during this year’s AFCON tournament in Morocco, where he officiated his first semi-final match in AFCON history.
In a recent interview, Mr. Laryea revealed that he generally ignores external distractions, especially from social media, ensuring that he stays detached from it. His primary focus is on officiating and the sport of football.
He emphasized that his strategy involves strictly adhering to the Laws of the Game to enhance the enjoyment of the match for spectators, fans, and supporters.
He acknowledged feeling a bit of pressure when assigned to referee the match between Nigeria and Morocco, as it marked his inaugural appearance in the AFCON finals, noting that semifinals often present the most challenges due to teams competing fiercely for a place in the final.
“For me, I just do my refereeing. I just do football. I dont listen to what goes in and out of Sociam media or whatever is happening there. We just apply the laws of the game. As a refree, when you are given such a stage, it is a big opportunity.
“When I was appointed for the game, I felt normal, but there was a bit of anxiety because it was my first AFCON semi-final. Semi- final matches are always the toughest because teams are fighting for a place in the final.”
Daniel Nii Laryea was warmly welcomed upon his arrival at KIA Airport.
