Arsenal midfielder, Granit Xhaka has suggested colleague and Ghanaian ace Thomas Partey to become the club’s new captain.
Arsenal are currently without a substantive captain after Gabonese forward Pierre Emerick Augbameyang was stripped off the captain armband for breach of disciplinary code.[ads2]
Players like Kieren Thierny, Bukayo Saka, Aaron Ramsadale and Ben White have all been tipped for the captaincy role with Ivorian forward Nicholas Pepe also in the list.
But experienced midfielder Granit Xhaka believes Thomas Partey can takeover the leadership role at the club.[ads3]
“We have a lot of young players, and you can see the hunger in them,” Xhaka told The Independent. “But as well, the experienced players like me, like Thomas (Partey) for example in the middle, we have to take them to the side, we have to speak with them.
“They are making our life very easy, because they are playing very good. They are scoring and we are enjoying playing with them. But, of course, we need the leaders in the team and at the moment we are doing well.”[ads4]
Partey joined Arsenal in the English Premier League from Spanish giant Atletico Madrid in 2020 and has become an integral member of the team.
He has become one of the favorite midfielders for coach Mikel Arteta in the Arsenal set up and currently the first deputy captain of Ghana senior male national team, Black Stars.[ads5]
