Ghana defender, Gideon Mensah has been excluded from the Black Stars squad to play a four-nation tournament in Japan.
The Bordeux left-back has been left out of the squad after sustaining an injury in the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Central African Republic.
“Gideon Mensah is not with the Black Stars team because of injury. He complained about injury after our game against CAR and the medical team decided to give him some time to rest knowing that he has also had a long season in France”, Henry Asante Twum, the Ghana FA spokesperson said in an interview on Oyerepa Radio in Kumasi.
This comes as a blow for the Black Stars following Mensah’s outstanding performance in the team lately.
In his absence, Reading FC defender Abdul Baba Rahman is expected to take absolute control of the left-back position in the Kirin Tournament in Japan.
Ghana will be playing Japan in the semifinal of the Kirin Tournament slated for June 10-14, 2022 before facing either Tunisia or Chile.
The tournament is to serve as preparation for Ghana ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup slated for November in Qatar.
