In a powerful show of purpose and collaboration, the Ghana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) paid a high-level courtesy call on the newly appointed Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, at the NSA Headquarters – Accra Sports Stadium. The visit marked not just a gesture of goodwill—but the beginning of a bold, collaborative journey to elevate the Ghana rugby union as a national force for youth development, discipline, and excellence, with plans to expand into all 16 regions of Ghana.
Leading the GRFU delegation, President Ms. Rafatu Inusah, alongside key executives, extended congratulations to Mr. Ampofo Ankrah, thanked him for his presence during the Union’s elections, and emphasized their commitment to aligning rugby with Ghana’s broader sporting vision. Ms. Inusah also updated the Director General on the ongoing Ghana Rugby Club Championship (GRCC) Regional 7s, taking place across five regions from 26th April to 10th May 2025, with the National Championship scheduled for 17th May. She further highlighted the preparations underway for both the men’s and women’s national teams ahead of the upcoming Rugby Africa Men’s 7s between 21-22nd June 2025 (Mauritius) and the Rugby Africa Women’s 7s in October 2025 (Cape Town)—a clear indication that the Ghana Rugby Football Union is stepping confidently onto the global stage.
“This is more than a new chapter—it’s a new era for the Ghana Rugby Football Union,” said President Ms. Rafatu Inusah. “We are building a movement that embodies purpose, unity, and impact—on and off the field.”
Mr. Ampofo Ankrah, expressed his joy at the progress of the rugby union across the regions, stating that the NSA is fully committed to supporting rugby’s growth and creating space for innovative sports development.
“Rugby exemplifies everything we want to see in our youth—resilience, teamwork, leadership, and discipline,” he remarked. “My doors are always open to those building for Ghana’s future.”
