Asante Forkuo, the spokesperson of former Black Stars coach, Kwasi Appiah has said Ghana is still owing the gaffer about $105,000.
Kwasi Appiah who was sacked as the head coach of the Ghana senior male national team, Black Stars in January, 2020 has not been paid his three months arrears which sum up to $105,000.
Earlier on, there were reports circulating in the media that, coach Kwasi Appiah is demanding for the money and has even threatened to drag Ghana to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS).[ads2]
But Asante Forkuo has rebuffed the reports, stating that coach Kwasi Appiah has never intended to drag Ghana to CAS and those reports must be regarded as fictitious and false.
“My attention has been drawn to letters circulating on social media and other media houses about former Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah demanding his unpaid 3 months salaries of $105,000 from the Ministry of Youth and Sports. I want to officially state that those letters are fake and not from Coach Appiah or his lawyers”, he said.[ads3]
Though most of the national team coaches including the current Black Stars head coach, CK Akonnor have been paid their arrears, that of Kwasi Appiah has not been settled after almost eighteen months.
Asante Forkuo, however has called on the new Youth and Sports Minister designate, Mustapha Yussif to settle the former Black Stars coach when assumed office as the new sector Minister.[ads4]
“Secondly, Coach Appiah has not rejected any money (cedis or dollars) from the Ministry as purported. Yes it could be true that other coaches owed including the current Black Stars coach and the GFA technical director have been paid all their arrears but not Kwasi Appiah. After almost 1 and half years he is still owed $105,000”
“Although he is still in the dark as to when the money will be paid. Nonetheless, it is our hope that he would be settled sooner than later by the Ministry”, Forkuo added…[ads5]
