The Ghana Football Association has taken a bold step to improve the welfare of players in the local leagues. The GFA has announced the introduction of minimum monthly salaries for footballers in the Ghana Premier League, Division One League, and the Women’s Premier League.
Under the new policy, Premier League players will receive not less than one thousand five hundred Ghana cedis, while players in the Division One and Women’s Premier League are guaranteed at least seven hundred Ghana cedis monthly.
The initiative, which follows a Memorandum of Understanding with the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana, also comes with a standardised contract for all professionals.
For players with existing contracts, the policy will fully take effect from the 2026/2027 season.
GFA President Kurt Okraku says the move is about fairness, dignity, and raising standards in the domestic game.
