The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has strengthened the Black Stars’ technical team with the appointment of five experienced professionals as part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
The additions, made in consultation with key stakeholders, are intended to boost competitiveness and deepen the team’s technical capacity ahead of the tournament to be co-hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States.
French coach Alain Ravera has been appointed Assistant Coach. He brings international experience from roles with the Guinea national team and French Ligue 1 side AS Monaco.
He will work alongside Black Queens Head Coach Kim Lars Björkegren, who also joins the Black Stars’ technical setup as Assistant Coach. The Swedish tactician recently guided the Black Queens to a bronze medal at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and has secured qualification for the 2026 WAFCON.
To strengthen scouting, match preparation and performance analysis, the GFA has appointed Spanish coach José Daniel Martínez Alfonso. He currently serves as an assistant coach and video analyst with Major League Soccer side Atlanta FC.
The medical team has been reinforced with the return of physiotherapist Carlos Lozano Romero, who previously worked with the Black Stars during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, ensuring continuity and familiarity within the setup.
British-born Ghanaian performance specialist Dwayne Peasah Paa Kwesi completes the additions as Performance Coach, with responsibility for physical conditioning, player optimisation and overall performance throughout the World Cup campaign.
The appointments are specific to the 2026 FIFA World Cup and follow the GFA’s long-standing practice of expanding the Black Stars’ technical team for major tournaments.
The five will work under Head Coach Otto Addo as Ghana steps up preparations, targeting a strong showing on football’s biggest stage.
