The Western Regional Sports Directorate of the National Sports Authority has announced date for its much awaiting annual cross country event.
The event which forms part of the region’s preparations for the national cross country, according to the Sports Directorate, has been scheduled for January 21-22, 2022 at the Sekondi Sports Stadium and will be under the theme “Running towards the 2023 Africa Games.”[ads2]
According to the Western Regional Sports Directorate, all the fourteen districts and municipalities in the region are expected to present twelve (12) athletes each comprising of six (6) males and six (6) females to participate in the event.
The competition is objected at qualifying athletes at the regional level to represent the Western Region in the 2022 National Cross Country as well as the to participate in the Ghana Games which will serve as the biggest platform for the selection of athletes into the national teams to represent the country in the 2023 Africa Games to be hosted in Ghana.[ads3]
Six best athletes both in the male and female divisions, at the end of the Inter-Districts competition, would be selected for a month camping to prepare them for the National Cross Country.
To be able to organize a successful event, the Western Regional Sports Director, Joseph Alabi Bortey has pleaded with corporate entities for support to unearth the needed talents for the national cross country.
