Akuapem Poloo was sentenced to ninety days in prison after being charged with three counts of publication of obscene materials, engaging in domestic violence, conduct that in any way undermines another person’s privacy or integrity, and engaging in domestic violence namely conduct that in any way detracts or is likely to detract from another person’s dignity and worth as a human being.
The actress was charged with the three counts by court after posting on social media, a nude photo and her seven-year-old son on his birthday in 2020.[ads3]
She initially pleaded not guilty to the charges but later pleaded guilty to the charges leveled against her after which she was sentenced to 90 days imprisonment by an Accra High court on April 16th.
But reports in the media indicate that, Poloo will no longer continue the jail term after court ruled on the convict’s request to have the jail sentence overturned and replaced with a fine, stating that the 90-day sentence imposed on her was not disproportionate or punitive.
The Appeal Court believe the sentence imposed on the actress was intended to cause the convict significant pain, which would subsequently serve as a deterrent to herself and others.[ads5]
