Ghana Premier powerhouse, Hearts of Oak will face Malian side AS Real de Bamako in the second preliminary round of 2022/23 CAF Confederation Cup.[ads2]
The Phobians were excluded from the first preliminary round after being ranked amongst the top sides in the competition.
Hearts of Oak will now face AS Real de Bamako next month after the Malian side managed to eliminate Burkina Faso club AS Douanes in the first preliminary round of the competition on Tuesday[ads3]
The Malians booted AS Douanes out of the competition after winning 3-1 on penalty shootouts after 0-0 aggregate scoreline after two legs.
The six times Mali Premier League champions have made a return to the CAF Confederation Cup after their last participation in 2014 where they made it to the group stages.[ads4]
Hearts of Oak on the other hand couldn’t make it to the group stage of the competition last season as they were eliminated by Algerian side JS Saoura in the play-off round.
The Phobians won the maiden edition of the Confederation Cup in 2004 beating bitterest rivals Asante Kotoko SC in the final.[ads5]
