Ghana has been dealt a huge blow as one of the boxers for the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, Shakul Samed has been suspended for failing a drug test.
According to the Games Anti-Doping and Medical Commission, Samed was banned after “His A sample was found to contain a prohibited substance (diuretic and masking agent – Furosemide).
Samed has been ” therefore been suspended with immediate effect. He and the Ghana Commonwealth Games Association have been informed.
The enterprising boxer will have the opportunity to provide further information, including requesting analysis of his B sample, before any charge is issued.”
Samed was supposed to fight Mauritius’ Luc Jean Rosalba on Friday but after the Ghanaian didn’t show up at the weigh-in with his opponent winning via a walkover.
Samed was part of the Ghana contingent for the Tokyo Olympics and was touted to win the country a medal in the Birmingham games.
