The Confederation of African Football (CAF) imposed a $615,000 fine on Senegal’s football federation due to the team’s conduct and the behavior of their fans. Additionally, players Iliman Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr received suspensions for two CAF matches for unsporting behavior towards the referee.
Morocco’s appeal to overturn the match result, following a 14-minute delay caused by Senegal players leaving the pitch, was rejected by CAF’s Disciplinary Committee.
Morocco, the host nation, faced fines totaling $315,000 for the conduct of the ball boys, the behavior of their players and staff in the Video Assistant Review area, and the use of lasers by supporters.
Morocco’s captain, Achraf Hakimi, received a suspension for two CAF matches, with one suspended for a year, while Ismael Saibari was suspended for three CAF matches. Both were penalized for unsporting conduct after attempting to remove the pitch-side towel of Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy during heavy rain in Rabat.
Senegal’s coach, Thiaw, instructed his players to leave the pitch late in the match following a disallowed goal. Shortly thereafter, Morocco was awarded a penalty, which Brahim Diaz ultimately missed.
Senegal secured victory with an extra-time goal by Pape Gueye.
