Reigning champions of the Ghana Premier League, Asante Kotoko have pulled out from the Ghana League Clubs Association (Ghalca) top six competition.
The tournament slated for August 14-31, 2022 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium was to serve as pre-season competition to prepare the clubs for the upcoming league season.
But Asante Kotoko who will be representing Ghana in the next season’s CAF Champions League have written to Ghalca to withdraw from participating in the tournament.
A statement from Kotoko reads, “We have this afternoon written officially to GHALCA, informing the welfare body of our decision not to partake in this year’s Ghalca Top Six tournament. Our decision was purely based on sporting reasons. Thank you.”
Kotoko’s withdrawal means that Bechem United, Great Olympics, Karela United, Hearts of Oak and Medeama Sporting Club are the clubs left to partake in the competition.
