Head coach Kim Lars Björkegren has announced a 24-player squad for Ghana’s two upcoming international friendlies against Côte d’Ivoire, scheduled for May 30 and June 3, 2025, as part of preparations for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The friendlies mark the Black Queens’ third outing of the year, following their back-to-back matches against Senegal in April. Coach Kim has retained the core of the squad that featured in those encounters, signalling a drive for continuity and stability ahead of the continental competition.
Among the notable inclusions are Ampem Darkoa Ladies midfielder Nancy Amoh and Northern Ladies goalkeeper Afi Amenyaku, both earning their first senior call-ups after catching the eye during a recent training camp at the GFA Technical Centre in Prampram.
Also receiving maiden invitations are Abigail Kofi Kim of Ankara BB Fomget and former Black Princesses defender Louisa Animwaa, who now plies her trade with Valadares in Portugal.
Meanwhile, experienced campaigners Grace Acheampong (TP Mazembe) and Alice Kusi(Al Ahli) return to the squad, adding depth and experience as the team gears up for WAFCON, which will be held from July 5 to 26, 2025.
The Black Queens will take on “Les Éléphants” in the first fixture on May 30, before wrapping up the friendly series with the second match on June 3.
These friendlies are expected to offer Björkegren and his technical team a critical opportunity to fine-tune tactics and assess player readiness ahead of Ghana’s bid to reclaim continental glory.
