The former Ampem Darkoa Ladies attacker was spectacular upfront as she helped her side to win the preseason tournament, Copa Columbina Futbol Feminino. The tournament saw three teams in the Spanish Iberdrola; CD Tacon (Real Madrid), Sevilla and Sporting Club Huelva competing among themselves in a winner takes all format. Black Queens defender Janet Egyir bagged a hat-trick as Afturelding trounced RI 9:0 in the Icelandic League. The 27-year old defender was spectacular during the encounter, where she netted her first ever hat-trick for Afturelding in the nine-goal thriller. Egyir joined Afturelding last season from Vikingular Olafsvik, where she scored 8 goals in 34 matches. Last week in the Icelandic League, she was named in the team of the week following her spontaneous performance with Afturelding.

An avid supporter of Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club and a former welfare officer of the Black Queens, Madam Mariam Buckman is reported dead. Madam Mariam Buckman was the President of the UNISON Supporters Group- a group that rallies support for the national football teams, notably the Black Stars and the Black Queens. She was the welfare officer for the Black Queens from 2002-2003 period and was also the senior sister of Madam Rita Buckman of the Hearts of Oak Women Supporters fame. The Black Queens clinched a bronze in the WAFU Zone B Championship after beating Mali in penalty shootouts today. The game ended goalless in the regulation period but Ghana secured victory after 7:8 shootouts against the Malians. Hasaacas Ladies defender Janet Egyir was adjudged the woman of the match for the second time after a scintillating showdown in the wary encounter today. The Black Queens of Ghana failed to defend the WAFU Zone B Championship as they were beaten by bitterest rival, the Super Falcons of Nigeria in a semi-final encounter today. The defending champions now have to battle for a bronze medal after a painful 4:2 shootouts defeat to their counterpart from Nigeria.
