President Akufo-Addo has made a donation of Gh¢100,000 towards the building of the National Cathedral project.[ads2]
The President made the donation after he visited the construction site of the stalled project.
Speaking during the visit, President Akufo-Addo reiterated that he is committed to building the National Cathedral and will complete the project before leaving office in 2024.[ads3]
Even though the project has been catapulted with criticisms and controversies, President Akufo-Addo has called for support from the Christian community to enable him fulfil the promise he made to God.
“As I have said before, the National Cathedral will not just be another monument adorning the skyline of Accra, it will be a rallying point for the entire Christian community to come together and worship… I am therefore committed to working with the Board of Trustees to ensure the completion of this project to the glory of God.”[ads4]
The National Cathedral is said to be a historic project that will provide a sacred space and infrastructure for the formal religious activities of the nation, like state funerals and presidential inaugural services. It is this national character that distinguishes it from the other Cathedrals in the country.
This is a bold vision of the President for a Sacred National infrastructure, linking it to the path-breaking design of iconic Architect Sir David Adjaye OBE, and organically anchoring these in world-class programs – including Africa’s first Museum of the Bible whose development is supervised by Cary Summers, the founding President of the Museum of the Bible in Washington DC.[ads5]
