Former Black Stars manager Kwasi Appiah has officially extended his stay with the Sudan national team after agreeing a new three-year contract with the Sudanese Football Association in Khartoum on Thursday.
The deal which runs until 2028 is a reward for the significant progress Sudan have made since Appiah took charge in September 2023. Tasked with rebuilding the Falcons of Jediane, the experienced Ghanaian coach has successfully revived belief and competitiveness within the team.
Under his leadership, Sudan secured qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, marking a major milestone in their resurgence. Their campaign featured a morale-boosting victory over Ghana, a result that highlighted their steady rise under Appiah’s guidance.
The contract extension signals the federation’s confidence in his long-term project, as Sudan look to re-establish themselves among Africa’s strongest national teams.
Sudan have been drawn into Group E for next year’s AFCON, where they will face Algeria, Equatorial Guinea and Burkina Faso when the tournament kicks off on December 21, running through to January 18.
Appiah, who previously led Ghana to the 2014 FIFA World Cup and returned for a second spell from 2017 to 2019, is continuing to build an impressive coaching résumé abroad — one that could yet shape another compelling international success story.
