Coventry City forward Brandon Thomas-Asante has received a late invitation to join the Black Stars ahead of Ghana’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
Thomas-Asante replaces Inaki Williams, who has withdrawn from the squad after sustaining an injury during Athletic Club’s La Liga clash against Mallorca on Saturday.
The 25-year-old forward has been in fine form for Coventry City in the English Championship, netting five goals and providing three assists in nine league appearances this season. Despite his impressive performances, he was initially omitted from coach Otto Addo’s squad for the crucial qualifiers against the Central African Republic (CAR) and Comoros.
However, with Williams ruled out, Thomas-Asante has been drafted in to bolster Ghana’s attacking options. This marks his first return to the national team since featuring in the Unity Cup in May.
The striker has already arrived in camp and is expected to participate in the team’s second training session on Monday, October 4. He heads into international duty on the back of a standout weekend performance, scoring twice in Coventry’s win over Sheffield Wednesday.
Thomas-Asante, who has one goal in four appearances for the Black Stars, will be keen to make his mark as Ghana continue their qualification campaign.
The Black Stars take on Central African Republic on Wednesday, before hosting Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, October 12.
