President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation and Africa Armwrestling, Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, has been re-elected Vice President of the World Armwrestling Federation (WAF). His mandate, renewed at the 47th WAF Congress held in Albena, Bulgaria, will run until 2029.
The congress unanimously endorsed Mr. Osei Asibey’s nomination in recognition of his impressive track record, visionary leadership, and tireless dedication to advancing the sport.
“I am giddy, elated and poised to further influence the development and promotion of armwrestling to new heights, leveraging on my network to drive growth, innovation, and excellence in the sport,” Mr. Osei Asibey said after his re-election.
A trailblazer in the sport, Mr. Osei Asibey has been instrumental in popularising armwrestling both in Ghana and across the continent. Under his leadership as President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation, the sport has gained remarkable visibility and momentum. His influence expanded further in 2022 when he was elected President of Africa Armwrestling and secured a seat on the WAF board, where he played a key role in ensuring armwrestling’s inclusion in the African Games.
At the global level, Mr. Osei Asibey will continue working closely with the WAF President and executives to drive strategies for the sport’s growth. His focus will include boosting participation, enhancing competition standards, and developing programmes that position armwrestling as a world-class discipline.
With his re-election, Ghana’s footprint in the global armwrestling space is set to strengthen further. His leadership not only cements Africa’s influence in the sport but also provides renewed momentum for Ghana’s rising profile on the international stage.
