Ghana defeated Chile 3:1 in a penalty shootouts to secure a bronze medal at the Kirin Cup in Japan.
After a shambolic display against Japan in the semifinal, the Black Stars came back stronger against Chile in the third place fixture on Tuesday, June 14, 2022.
It was a game Ghana dominated possession throughout the regulation period but failed to utilize the numerous chances created with Jordan Ayew, Fatawu Issahaku, Andre Ayew, Felix Afena-Gyan, Kudus Mohammed, Benjamin Tetteh missing glorious opportunities.
Ghana were reduced to nine men after Alidu Seidu was shown a red card for a bad tackle while Mubarak Wakaso also sent off for an indiscipline behavior on the field.
The entire 90 minutes ended in a goalless and the winner had to be decided via penalty shootouts at the Panasonic Stadium in Osaka.
It was goalkeeper Abdul Manaf Nurudeen who was the hero for Ghana after making three beautiful saves during the shootouts.
His saves enabled Ghana to defeat Chile 3:1 on shootouts to secure a bronze medal from the competition that was to prepare the squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Ghana went to Japan without some key players who were initially in the squad for the trip. The likes of Gideon Mensah, Daniel Kofi-Kyere, Richard Ofori and goalkeeper Joseph Wollacot were all out of the team.
