Former Asante Kotoko defender, Joe Hendricks has told Hearts of Oak what to do to eliminate Wydad Athletic in the CAF Champions league preliminary round.
The Phobians will face Wydad Athletic in the first leg of the final preliminary round of the competition at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday October 17, 2021 before the return fixture in Morocco.[ads2]
Should Hearts of Oak eliminate Wydad Athletic, the reigning Ghana Premier league champions will automatically get a ticket to the group stage of the competition.
And Joe Hendricks who captained Asante Kotoko to the 2004 CAF Confederation Cup final has implored Hearts of Oak to score an early goal to frustrate Wydad Athletic.[ads3]
According to the veteran footballer, an early goal will disabled WAC, which the Phobians can capitalize on and score more goals to make the second-leg in Morocco a mere formality.
“WAC have a good team, a very strong squad that will give Hearts of Oak a difficult game. Hearts can only try and frustrate them by scoring an early goal. Their strikers should be clinical and utilize all the chances”, Hendricks said on Takoradi-based Ahoto FM in an interview.
“Hearts of Oak had a blistering form last season and if they want to qualify for the group stage, they must beat WAC convincingly in Accra. They should avoid unnecessary fouls that can give WAC a goal on Sunday. The defenders should also be careful”, he added.[ads5]
