Black Stars head coach CK Akonnor has handed late call-ups to two locally-based players.
Hearts of Oak skipper Fatawu Mohammed and Great Olympics defender Samuel Ashie Quaye are the two players handed in the invitation.[ads2]
Fatawu has received the invitation after MSK Milina defender Benson Anang picked up an injury, ruling him out of the qualifiers.
The Ghana FA has confirmed that the right-back won’t be available for the two world cup qualifying games and has been replaced by Hearts of Oak captain Fatawu Mohammed.[ads3]
“Slovakia based Benson Annan has been ruled out of the two World Cup qualifiers after picking up an injury over the weekend We wish Benson a speedy recovery,” wrote the FA on Twitter.
Benson Anang had his debut Black Stars call up for the friendlies against Mali and Qatar in October 2020.[ads4]
“Samuel Ashie Quaye (Great Olympics), Fatau Mohammed (Hearts of Oak) called up by Coach Charles Akonnor. Brentford City winger Tarique Fosu is excused from the upcoming assignments to sort out his future with the club,” added the FA.
Ghana is preparing for World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia on September 3, 2021 before facing South Africa three days later.[ads5]
