The Black Stars of Ghana defeated Madagascar in the opening game campaign of their 2026 World Cup Qualifiers against at the Baba Yara Stadium.
In the first half,the Black Stars failed to keep momentum and create chances allowing Madagascar to grow in confidence and have to better of ball possession (57%).The visiting team defended to the best of their abilities.
The second half saw the Black Stars create a lot of chances after right back Denis Odoi and Ashimeru were brought on to replace Alidu Seidu and Baba Iddrisu respectively.
Ghana continually piled pressure on Madagascar but to no avail.The introduction of Osman Bukari and Ernest Nuamah brought a lot of energy and quick transition into the game to the favour of the Black Stars.In a magical turn of events in the game that seemed to be a draw, Gideon Mensah’s last minute cross found Inaki Williams who converted beautifully to give Ghana a 1-0 lead.
Ghana now lie second in group I after the earlier Group I encounter saw Comoros beat Central African Republic 4-2 with Mali face Chad later at 7pm.
Ghana will face Comoros on Tuesday November 21.
