The massive sportswear company Adidas has acknowledged that it was the victim of a cyber-attack that caused consumer data to vanish from its databases. The Adidas hack is the most recent in a series of cyber-attacks against businesses.
According to the German business, hackers gained access to specific customer information via a third-party customer support provider. The business affirmed that no credit card information or passwords were stolen.
“With the help of top information security specialists, we initiated a thorough investigation and promptly took action to control the situation,” the business stated in a statement.
Adidas stated that the contact details of customers who had previously contacted their customer service help line made up the majority of the compromised data.
The statement read, “Adidas is in the process of informing potentially affected consumers.” It went on to say, “We deeply apologize for any inconvenience or worry caused by this incident, and are fully dedicated to preserving the privacy and security of our users.”
Earlier this month, Co-op experienced a hack that severely disrupted its retail chain, leaving many of its stores with bare shelves. The upscale London store Harrods was also impacted.
