Former Ghana midfielder, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has called for the presence of the military at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday where Hearts of Oak will host bitterest rivals Asante Kotoko.
Dubbed the ‘Super Clash’, the biggest game in Ghana football history comes off on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at the Accra Sports Stadium where Hearts of Oak will welcome Asante Kotoko in week 31 of the Ghana Premier league.
As the day to kickoff keep approaching, the tension surrounding the biggest game in the country continue to rise with supporters of the two clubs throwing shades at each other every single day.[ads2]
Due to the tension surrounding the tantalizing fixture, many are of the view that the Ghana FA should deploy more of the men in mufti to ensure peace and order at the stadium in order to avoid another disaster in the country’s football history.
Although some bigheads are calling for more of the military men to ensure violence-free game on Sunday, others also believe it will scare the fans from coming to support their teams and drive away the psychological urge the players need.
But Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu who played for Asante Kotoko in 2008-2009 and had the taste of the big game believes the presence of the military will enable the supporters to be behave decently and avoid any acts that could lead to loss of lives as experienced in May 9, 2001.
He said this after Asante Kotoko game against Karela United at the Lenclay Sports Stadium in Obuasi on Wednesday afternoon.[ads3]
He believes since a decision of a referee led to the May 9th disaster, considering the tension surrounding the game, the referee for the clash on Sunday might make a mistake which will agitate the supporters to respond in a way that will cause another mayhem in the country’s football history.
On his Facebook page, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu wrote that, “We need the military on Sunday oo else…”
