SWAG mourns passing of veteran coach Annor Walker

The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has joined the football fraternity in mourning the death of veteran coach Annor Walker, who passed away on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, after a brief illness.

In a statement issued on Friday, October 3, SWAG expressed its deepest condolences to the family of the late coach and the wider football community, describing his passing as “a major loss for Ghanaian coaching and football development.”

Walker, celebrated as both a seasoned tactician and a mentor, carved a legacy of tactical brilliance while nurturing many young players into professionals. SWAG highlighted his humility and respectful demeanour towards stakeholders, coaches, administrators and journalists, noting that he was admired for the warmth he extended to all.

“We all remember his exploits, especially at Nania FC, where he led them to an unprecedented FA Cup triumph over Asante Kotoko in 2011. And at the height of his career, he played for Asante Kotoko,” the statement read.

Over the years, Annor Walker built an illustrious coaching career, handling the Black Galaxies and managing several Ghana Premier League sides, including FC Samartex, Accra Great Olympics, Nania FC, Kpando Hearts of Lions, and Berekum Chelsea. Most recently, he served as Technical Director for Vision FC.

His death, SWAG noted, brings to an end decades of remarkable service to Ghanaian football, during which he left an indelible mark on the game through talent development, discipline, and tactical acumen.

Coach Annor Walker will be remembered for his achievements on the field and his lasting contribution to the growth of football in Ghana.
