It is reported that six people collapsed when a stampede occurred at the Kumasi Central Market on Monday afternoon. According to information available to YEN.com.gh, the area i which the incident took place is a congested place popularly referred to as “18 Line”.

According to the intial report by Graphic.com.gh, there have been no deaths reported. The 18 Line is described as a narrow space that many use as a shortcut while navigating their way through the Kumasi Market.

All six people who collapsed were females. They were rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for medical attention.

It is reported that while two of the six were discharged immediately after admission, four were still in care as at Monday evening. It is not known if doctors would give them the immediate clearance to leave.

Their issues are thought to have stemmed from challenges from breathing while fighting for space in the scuffle. It was even feared that someone had died in the struggle but paramedics rejected this.

Police presence was immediately was called upon to maintain law and order.

Ghanaian governments since the 1990s have looked to modernise the Kumasi Central Market but a proper solution seems to elude them all.
