Newly appointed office holders at TTU urged to champion teamwork and innovation

The Vice Chancellor of Takoradi Technical University (TTU), Rev. Prof. John Frank Eshun, has called on newly appointed office holders to prioritise teamwork, innovation, and collaboration in the discharge of their duties.

He made the appeal at a three-day orientation programme organised by the University’s Directorate of Human Resource to prepare newly appointed Heads of Directorates, Units, and Departments for effective leadership.

In his address, Rev. Prof. Eshun underscored the importance of discipline and leading by example, stressing that leadership in academia is most effective when exercised collectively.

“Leadership is not exercised in isolation; it thrives on partnership, trust, and a shared vision. No department can thrive alone, and the success of our institution depends on the synergy we create across faculties and units. By working together, sharing resources, and supporting one another, we can overcome challenges more effectively and translate our collective efforts into meaningful progress,” he said.

He further noted that many issues escalated to the Vice Chancellor’s office could be resolved at the departmental or faculty level if leaders demonstrated initiative and responsibility. He therefore encouraged the new leaders to strengthen inter-departmental collaboration to enhance productivity and academic excellence.

Rev. Prof. Eshun also urged participants to study best practices from other institutions to improve their efficiency while assuring them of Management’s full support in their new roles.

The orientation featured presentations on a wide range of topics including From Governance to Operations: The Role of Deans, Directors, HoDs and Faculty Officers; Understanding the Public Financial Management (PFM) Act; and Total Quality Management in Takoradi Technical University: The Role of Office Holders.

Subsequent sessions will address areas such as University structure, policies and procedures, health and wellness for office holders, library services, maintenance culture, ICT resources, and faculty administration. Practical case studies and sessions on handling staff and student requests will also be included.

The programme is expected to equip office holders with the knowledge, skills, and strategies to excel in leadership and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the University.
