[Breaking] Kwesi Nyantakyi banned for life; fined CHF500,000 for breaches

Former Ghana Football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi has been banned for life from all football related activities and has also been fined CHF 500,000 ($497,000)for various breaches of FIFA’s ethics as well as conflict of interest.

FIFA has today handed a lifetime ban from all football related activities to former Ghana Football Association and CAF first vice president, Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi after four-month investigation by the Fifa Ethics Committee.

Mr. Nyantakyi was captured taking bribes in a video exposé dubbed #Number12 which was compiled by Ghanaian journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
He was captured on videos negotiating a deal with businessmen and accepting a bribe of $65,000 to help establish an oil business in his native country.

The FIFA statement reads “The adjudicatory chamber of the Independent Ethics Committee has banned Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi, former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for life from all football related activities (administration, sports or any other) at national and international level,”.

” The adjudicatory found Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi guilty of having violating article 19. (conflict of interest) article 21. (Bribery and Corruption)”
