Communications Director of GFA, Henry Asante Twum, stated that he has no information about the upcoming development concerning Eddie Nketiah or Odoi potentially joining the Black Stars for the World Cup.
In an interview on Accra-based Akoma FM, Mr. Twum explained that the Ghana Black Stars’ head coach previously made efforts to invite the players to the national team four years ago. However, those plans did not come to fruition because the players were not yet willing to represent Ghana. He added,
“To my knowledge, I am not aware of Eddie Nketiah or Odoi approaching the Black Stars. Four years ago, the coach did make contact with these players, but it didn’t materialize at the time.”
He continued to state that OtooAddo, the Black Stars head coach, has not yet informed him of any further discussions concerning inviting any players to the National Team.
“Otto Addo has not informed me of any further discussions with them as of now”.
Nonetheless, the coach will get in touch to ensure that a certain player has been invited if he believes that player can contribute positively to the club. The FA will guarantee that a nationality alteration is completed and taken care of correctly.
If the coach identifies a player he wants to call up, we will reach out. In cases of nationality switches, the FA will initiate the process and ensure it is properly handled.”
In addition to trying to get Austria on board for another friendly game, the Black Stars are getting ready to play the German National Team in Germany.
