Hearts stumble as Hohoe United mark GPL debut with stalemate

Accra Hearts of Oak endured a frustrating start to the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League campaign after being held to a goalless draw by newly promoted Hohoe United at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday night.

The Phobians, guided by new head coach Didi Dramani, named a strong starting XI but struggled to find their rhythm against Abdul Rahim Bashiru’s well-organised side.

Hearts dominated possession in the opening half yet lacked the cutting edge to convert their pressure into goals, heading into the break with the scoreline still unchanged.

The tempo of the game lifted after the restart, and Hohoe’s task became tougher when Solomon Adomako received his marching orders in the 67th minute. Despite enjoying a numerical advantage for over 20 minutes, Hearts failed to break through as the debutants held firm at the back to claim a valuable point in their maiden Premier League outing.

The result means Hearts of Oak have now gone seven consecutive seasons without registering an opening-day victory in the top flight.

Dramani’s men will next travel to Dawu to face Dreams FC, while Hohoe United will host Young Apostles in their first-ever home fixture in the GPL.
