Prosper Kofi Ntow, the lawyer of former Black Stars head coach, CK Akonnor has rebuffed media reports that his client has dragged GFA to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS).
There were media reports that the 47-year old has summoned GFA before CAS over his unpaid wages.
The former Asante Kotoko tactician was appointed Black Stars head coach on a two-year deal, replacing Kwesi Appiah last year.[ads2]
Akonnor was on a $25,000 monthly salary as the Black Stars head coach but was sacked after ten matches where he only won four.
He was sacked alongside his assistant coaches David Duncan and Patrick Greveraars following Ghana’s shaky start of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
According to the media reportage, CK Akonnor has dragged GFA to CAS seeking $300,000 in damages, $350,000 as salary arrears, and $50,000 as a signing-on fee.[ads3]
But his lawyer Prosper Kofi Ntow has denied the reportage, stressing that CK Akonnor is yet to send the GFA to CAS.
Speaking on Kessben FM, Prosper Kofi Ntow stated that they have only written to the GFA for the unpaid wages of which the association is yet to respond.
He indicated that CK Akonnor will only go to CAS when the GFA fail to respond to their letter sent to the association on October 17, 2021.[ads4]
“It’s never true that CK [Akonnor] has sent GFA to CAS, we have never done that”, he said.
“There were responsibilities in the contract CK Akonnor signed but the GFA haven’t fulfilled them. They [GFA] have not paid his signing on fees and other monies, so we wrote to them and the GFA is yet to reply us.
“We have not met the GFA, so it’s not true and I think it’s a propaganda against CK. If the GFA failed to respond to our letter, then we will follow the procedures in the contract by going to CAS”, Lawyer Prosper Kofi Ntow added…[ads5]
