CK Akonnor has made history by becoming the first coach to win the Coach of the Month award twice in Kenya for the 2025/26 season, having secured the January accolade.
The Gor Mahia head coach was honored as the SportPesa League Coach of the Month on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, after leading his team to the top of the league standings. This marks Akonnor’s second award, having previously won in October 2025.
Akonnor triumphed over competitors Osborne Monday (Murang’a SEAL), Bernard Mwalala (Bandari FC), and Fred Ambani (AFC Leopards).
This remarkable performance propelled Gor Mahia to a total of 40 points, placing them four points ahead of second-placed AFC Leopards. Notable highlights from the month included a commanding 4-1 victory over Kariobangi Sharks and a dramatic comeback from two goals down to defeat Murang’a SEAL 3-2.
During January, his team achieved an impressive record of five wins and one draw from six matches, scoring 15 goals while conceding only four, and maintaining three clean sheets.
As part of the recognition, Akonnor received a customized SportPesa League Coach of the Month trophy along with a cash prize of KSh 75,000 from the sponsors, SportPesa.
