Ghanaian rapper and songwriter, Mohammed Ismail Shariff known in showbiz as Black Sherif has been adjudged the overall artiste of the year at this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).
The ‘Konongo Zongo’ hit-maker was crowned the best artiste in Ghana in the year under retrospect at the prestigious awards ceremony at the Grande Arena at the Accra International Conference Centre on Sunday, April 7, 2023.
Black Sherif, an Empire Music signee defeated competitions from heavyweights like Joe Mettle, Piesie Esther, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, KiDi, Camidoh and King Promise to win the topmost award.
The awards night witnessed electrifying performances from KiDi Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, Gyakie, Black Sherif, King Promise, Piesie Esther and some selected gospel stars and Pheelz from Nigeria.
Hosted by ace broadcasters Berla Mundi, Naa Ashokor and actor James Gardiner, the show saw the legendary Chief Kofi Sammy honored with a lifetime achievement awards while Worlasi went home with the Vodafone Green Award.
