The National Sports Authority (NSA) have reacted to a comment made by its Director-General Professor Peter Twumasi that government has eased restrictions on all contact sports.

Sporting activities in Ghana has been suspended since March, 2020 after a ban was placed on public gatherings by the government as a way to mitigate the spread of the novel Coronavirus.

But Professor Peter Twumasi in an interview on Accra-based Atinka FM made a comment that, President Akufo-Addo has eased restrictions on contact sports like football, athletics and boxing and so therefore clubs, athletes and boxers can resume training but can’t engage in any competitive events.

This brought some sort of wranglings in the media space since Ghanaian clubs will only have to train for the next league season because the 2019/20 league season has been cancelled by the Ghana FA.

But in a statement signed by the acting Head of Public Relations Charles Amofa, the NSA has urged Ghanaians to treat the initial comment by its Director-General as an error because all contact sports including football remain suspended by the government’s directives.
