Ghana have reached the playoff round after pipping South Africa by 1-0 at the Cape Coast Stadium to finish as winners of Group G with goal difference.
The Black Stars commenced the game on a higher note making incursions to break the deadlock but the South Africans were well organised at the back containing the pressure of the attack.
The South Africans settled well in the game and nearly broke the deadlock in just nine minutes to the game after Nyiko Mobbie sent a long pass to locate Victor Letsoalo who fouled Daniel Amartey in the process.[ads2]
Ghana was dealt a gargantuan blow when Ajax FC attacker Kudus Mohammed sustained an injury on the 12th minute, and was replaced by Daniel Kofi Kyereh.
The Black Stars began tormenting, Iddrisu Baba set up Daniel Kofi Kyereh with a smooth pass but couldn’t make his first attempt count after blasting wide for a restart.
Kofi Kyereh launched in a long corner kick but it eluded everyone, but Daniel Amartey in an attempt to connect the ball was brought down for a penalty by Rushine De Reuck in the 31st minute.[ads3]
Ghana skipper Andre Ayew beautifully converted the ball to give the West African country the lead.
It nearly went 2:0 for Ghana in the second half but Jordan Ayew’s free kick on the 54th minute went straight at Ronwen Williams.
Ghanaian goalkeeper Jojo Wollacot made a brilliant save in the 65th minute by denying Percy Tau from getting the equaliser with his thunderbolt freekick.
On the 68th minute, Percy Tau broke from the right flanks, made a good serging run but his short was too feeble to beat Jojo Wollacott.[ads4]
South Africa appealed for a penalty after Percy Tau was brought down in the box but the referee Ndiaye Maguette wasn’t interested.
After ninety plus additional three minutes, referee Ndiaye Maguette whistled to being the game to a end with Ghana are through to the final and playoff round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.[ads5]
