CAF Confederation Cup: AshantiGold, Salitas FC share the spoils at Obuasi

AshantiGold Sporting Club failed to secure victory in the first leg tie of the CAF Confederation Cup in Obuasi on Sunday afternoon.

The Miners who were tipped to wallop Salitas FC at the Lenclay Sports Stadium in Obuasi to make the return leg in Burkina Faso a mere formality failed to even find the net of the Burkinabe outfit.

Coach Milovan Cirkovic started the game with Robert Dabuo in posts, Kwadwo Amoakoh, Roland Amouzou, Empem Dacosta and Richard Osei Agyemang in defence while Appiah Maccarthy, David Abagna and Eric Esso were deployed in midfield with Amos Addai, Yaw Annor and Hans Kwoffie taking charge of the attack.

AshantiGold started very well in the early minutes of the game, detecting the pace, creating glorious chances but all were fruitless as they failed to score.

It started with Hans Kwoffie in the 8th minute, the experienced goal poacher was served with a fine opportunity to open the deadlock for the home team but failed to utilize the sumptuous opportunity.

Few minutes later saw Appiah Maccarthy squandering a great opportunity nevertheless right-back Kwadwo Amoakoh nearly changed the game for AshantiGold Sporting Club but his strike was beautifully saved by the Salitas FC goalkeeper.

The first half ended goalless with AshantiGold Sporting Club dominating possession.

The second half begun with coach Milovan Cirkovic instructing his boys especially the attacking front to make utilize the opportunities.

Just after the instructions came with Hans Kwoffie hitting the goalposts with a thunderbolt strike.

Coach Cirkovic started introducing fresh energy into the game by substituting Amos Addai for Mark Agyekum and Kwesi Moses for injured Richard Osei Agyemang.

Amos Kofi Nkrumah came in for the skillful Yaw Annor whiles Abdul Bashiru was introduced for Roland Amouzou.

Despite the substitutions, the scores never changed as Salitas FC managed to secure a point at the Lenclay Sports Stadium in Obuasi ahead of the return fixture in Burkina Faso.
