[ads1]The President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku has called on the government to support the association financially and logistically for the resumption of football.
It would be recalled that President Akufo-Addo in his seventieth nationwide address, gave the greenlight for football activities and all contact sports in Ghana to resume on October 30 after six months of break due to the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus.[ads2]
To ensure a smooth resumption of contact sports in the country, the National Sports Authority on Tuesday held a marathon meeting with all heads of contact sports to deliberate on plans for the return of the various games.
At the meeting, the Ghana FA President made the appeal that, the association needs government in this critical time since sports is an essential element to the country’s development.[ads3]
Kurt Okraku also presented the strategies, challenges and measures needed to be taken care of before the resumption of effective training in a safer environment.
He pledged that when football activities resume, the Ghana FA will ensure that all clubs adhere to the covid-19 safety protocols that have been put in place, which he said is the only way to keep the players and coaches safe from contracting the virus.[ads4]
Kurt Okraku and the heads of the other federations also pleaded with the government on the need for all the various federations to be provided with PPE’s, aside the general testing of the athletes.
Some of the heads also lamented on the cost of providing facemasks and sanitizers to their athletes amongst others. They overwhelmingly requested for financial support, due to the impact of the covid-19 pandemic.
