Ghanaian boxer, Samuel Takyi has made it to the quarterfinals beating Caicedo Carlos from Ecuador in the ongoing Olympics in Tokyo.
The 20-year old smashed Caicedo Carlos after a blistering final round to advance to the quarterfinals of the featherweight division in boxing.[ads2]
Takyi was leading after the first round of exchanges on all the five score cards.
But the South American stepped up a gear and got 4 out of the 5 judges to give him the second round.[ads3]
With everything to fight for in the final round, Takyi went all out with a combination of punches – he cut his opponent on the lid of his right eye but the Ecuadorian refused to back down until the bell ended the contest.
Samuel Takyi now needs one more win to edge closer into the medal zone.
He becomes the second Ghanaian boxer to win first bout in the ongoing Olympics in Tokyo after Sulemanu Tetteh.[ads5]
