Black Stars midfielder, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu says Black Satellites winning of the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt doesn’t necessarily means Black Stars will clinch the 2019 AFCON.
A section of Ghanaians have a believe that since the Ghana U-20 team clinched the 2009 World Cup in Egypt under the leadership of Andre Ayew, the appointment of the Swansea City midfielder as the captain of the Black Stars means the team will end the 37 years drought of not winning the prestigious AFCON tournament.
According to Emmanuel Agyemang Badu who was an integral member of the Black Satellites team that won the World Cup, winning the World Cup in Egypt doesn’t necessarily mean Ghana will clinch this year’s AFCON at the same soil even though the Black Stars boast of a solid squad.
” Winning the U-20 World Cup in Egypt is a different ball game altogether so we shouldn’t be of the view that it will happen because the U-20 was a different team compared to the Black Stars”, Badu told Ashh FM.
Meanwhile, Ghana will begin the AFCON campaign against the Squirrels of Benin in a group F encounter later tonight at the Ismailia Stadium before playing as visitors to defending champions, Cameroon on June 29.
